Supervising Producer, Nickelodeon (Unannounced Series)

Hyun Joo (she/her, they/them) is a Korean filmmaker, story artist, and writer working across animation and webtoons living in LA, currently serving as a Supervising Producer at Nickelodeon Animation Studios.

Over the span of 12 years, she worked as Story Artist, Director, and Supervising Director at major studios including Netflix, DreamWorks, and Nickelodeon, encompassing both features and series, such as 'Ultraman: Rising', 'Maya and the Three', 'JENTRY vs The Underworld', 'GlitchTechs', ‘Trollhunters’, and ‘Avatar: The Legend of Korra'. In addition, she storyboarded K-pop music videos for 'Oh My Girl' and 'Dreamcatcher'.

She was nominated and received an Annie Award for Outstanding Storyboarding for TV for her storyboard work on ‘Trollhunters’. Her short film 'Black Box', which she both wrote and directed, received an Honorable Mention at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

In parallel with her full-time animation work, she writes and produces Korean webtoons. Her first webtoon series, 'The Warehouse', blending Queer Romance, Thriller, and Mystery genres, achieved domestic success in Korea and was subsequently translated into multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, and Thai. On Tencent, one of China's largest entertainment platforms, it amassed 400 million views. She is currently working on her second series, aiming to publish in 2024.

Her primary focus is to create stories that can evoke a range of emotions, making people cry, laugh, and feel connected to the subject matters she resonates with, such as female-driven action adventures, LGBTQ-centric romance, and stories deeply rooted in Korean culture, alongside a crew who share similar visions and goals.
