Job Title - Asst Manager, Affirmative Action/Diversity

POSITION PURPOSE:
Assist the National Director, Associate National Director, and Senior Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Department as well as strategic planning and implementation of policies and programs initiated by the Department. Support the activities of departmental committees, including, but not limited to, the Women’s Committee, Seniors Committee, Performers with Disabilities Committee, Ethnic Employment Opportunities Committee, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Committee, Native American Indian Committees and Spanish Language Task Force. Enforce the Policy of Non-Discrimination and Diversity pursuant to the Guild’s collective bargaining agreement and relevant federal and state non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity laws. Manage sexual harassment and discrimination claims by members. Provide administration assistance for grants and funds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist National Director, Associate National Director and Senior Manager of Affirmative Action / Diversity.

  • Handle sexual harassment/discrimination claims by members. Responsible for the tracking system for all calls and/or complaints of harassment or discrimination.

  • Provide support to national and local committees and sub-committees, including arranging logistics of meetings, contacting members, maintaining minutes, etc.

  • Plan and coordinate committee and departmental events.

  • Develop and maintain professional relations with members, committees, industry stakeholders and community organizations.

  • Manage administrative staff and temp employees (as needed).

  • Coordinate communication with NY Staff.

  • Provide administrative/office duties.

Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
(The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.)

  • Must possess understanding of issues related to diversity, affirmative action and equal employment opportunity. Ready and able to learn nondiscrimination laws and policies.

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with tact and diplomacy. Experience in counseling people is a plus.

  • Able to critically read, proof read, edit and write.

  • Knowledge of referral and outreach procedures is a plus.

  • Must have presentation skills for large audiences.

  • Able to plan & implement events (large and small)

  • Able to use multiple PC applications

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Able to work under strict deadlines with little supervision

  • Able to organize and maintain information

  • Able to travel and work extended hours

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
Undergraduate degree or combination of education and experience. At least 2 years experience working with issues of discriminatory practices and sexual harassment.

VOLUNTEER ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Web Designer

Organization: Filipino American Library (FAL)

Salary: unpaid; academic credit & portfolio addition

Description:

Re-design the FAL website to promote the organization’s program and services.  The goal is to convey how FAL advances its mission to actively promote the history, culture, and professional achievements of Filipinos and Filipino Americans through the book collection, leadership development, and cultural programming, thereby contributing to the achievement of a culturally dynamic, multiethnic America.  For more information, please visit www.filipinoamericanlibrary.org.

Responsibilities:

-         Participate in planning discussions with the Board and Staff.

-         Implement the organization’s branding with the FAL Art Director.

-         Establish an interface that allows for easy updates.

-         Communicate any questions or concerns to the FAL Administrator.

-         Provide reports to the FAL Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

-         familiarity with Dreamweaver

-         able to provide portfolio of past website designs

-         has regular access to a computer with current web design software

-         preference in communicating through email

-         patience when working with a variety of people
