CAPE is dedicated to advancing diversity and
creating social change by actively developing,
promoting and positioning Asian Pacific
Americans for key artistic and leadership roles
in the entertainment industry and media arts.
Founded in 1991, CAPE has become the
leading forum for Asian Pacifics in feature film,
television, video, publishing, music and other
entertainment fields to share their common
interests and concerns through such programs
as workshops, panels, screenings and hosted
conversations with notable executives and
artists. CAPE established a New York Chapter
in 1995.

With chapters in Los Angeles and New York, CAPE reaches thousands of studio, network
digital media and independent executives, film and television producers, record labels, agents, publicists, below-the-line talent, actors, musicians, designers, writers and directors. CAPE serves as one of the most important meeting places for Asian Pacific Americans in the entertainment industry.

CAPE Conversations

Asian Pacific writers and executives at a CBS sponsored Cape Panel and Workshop.
Informal, open discussions with prominent artist and executives from across the entertainment industry. Featured speakers have included motion picture executives Stephen Chao, Stephen Chin, Bonnie Lee, Chris Lee, Janet Yang, and Teddy Zee; television executives Laverne McKinnon, Steve Smith, Cathy Kim, Ken Mok, Quan Phung, Sonja Piper-Dosti, and Stephen Tao; directors/producers George Huang, Warrington Hudlin, Ang Lee, Freida Lee Mock, Mina Shum, John Singleton, John Woo, and Jessica Yu; writers Vince Cheung, Desmond Nakano, and James Wong; cinematographers Michael Goi and John Toll; actors Margaret Cho, Amy Hill, Tamlyn Tomita, Ming-Na, and B.D. Wong; and casting directors Mali Finn, Don Pemrick, and Lisa Zarowin, just to name just a few.

CAPE Screenings

The latest works from Asian Pacific directors, writers, producers, and actors. Q&A sessions with the filmmakers and stars usually follow. Past screenings have included Saving Face, Torque, Windtalkers, Final Fantasy, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Broken Hearts Club, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, Anna and the King, Snow Falling on Cedars, Girlfight, Mulan, The Replacement Killers, Rush Hour, and Oscar-winning documentaries such as Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision, and Breathing Lessons: The Life and Work of Mark O'Brien.

CAPE Panels and Workshops

Panels and workshops for working professionals and CAPE members on topics such as TV programming, TV development, independent feature film financing, distribution, the Internet, digital filmmaking, casting, and screenwriting.

CAPE Pitch Lab

Established as a quarterly program to provide a one-on-one learning experience for screenwriters on how to communicate their projects effectively to sell to a studio or producer, CAPE recently began developing a similar program for television writers.


CAPE Networking

Regular social gatherings include "The Asian Breakfast Club," an intimate monthly gathering for CAPE members with leading entertainment executives, agents/managers and artists; and informal holiday social events where members can network with CAPE board of directors and advisors at local hotspots.
