2006 has been a record-breaking and extremely competitive year for the CAPE Foundation New Writers Award sponsored by FOX. We had submissions from all over the country this year including South Carolina, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Washington, Illinois, Oklahoma, New Jersey, DC, California and New York. Due largely to word of mouth and extensive outreach, we improved upon last year’s number of submissions greatly, and almost doubled the number of feature entries and more than quadrupled the number of TV entries this year.

We will be introducing this year’s finalists at the CAPE Foundation 2005 New Writers Award Reading, which will be held at Culver Studios’ Ince Theater on June 15, 2006. We will then announce the winners at the CAPE Gala, which will be held at the end of the year. We will also kick off the CAPE Foundation 2007 New Writers Award at the gala. ABC/Disney Talent Development Scholarship Grant Program

Congratulations to Albert Lee and writing team Suzi Shimoyama Mercer and Julia Candler for being selected by CAPE Foundation to be submitted to the ABC/Disney Talent Development Scholarship Grant Program.

If they are selected for the program, they will be provided with financial support and mentorship in the development of a new work or for the completion of a work in progress with a grant of up to $20,000.

The ABC/Disney Talent Development Scholarship Grant Program and the CAPE Foundation share the common goal of nurturing and supporting aspiring writers, directors and filmmakers from diverse backgrounds.

ABC/Disney will announce their selections in late July.
